Psychotherapy, often referred to as talk therapy, is a method used to help people overcome mental health difficulties or other emotional challenges. During talk therapy, a licensed professional counselor helps guide a person to better understand themselves and learn to live a more satisfying life. Dr. Ingram utilizes psychotherapy in individual, family, couples and group counseling to find core issues and address them in a therapeutic manner.
Sessions for individual counseling and couples counseling is $150 for 45 minutes. Group counseling sessions are $75 for 75 minutes. Payments for each session are due at the beginning of each session. Payments by check, Venmo, Zelle or PayPal are accepted (PayPal will charge an additional 3% for service charges). If you miss a session or cancel a session less than 24 hours in advance, you will be charged $150 (illnesses and emergencies are exceptions reviewed case by case.)
Dr. Ingram, a licensed professional counselor, offers individual counseling, group counseling, couples counseling, and family counseling.

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and taking care of your mental health can lead to a happier and more fulfilling life. If you’re looking for therapy, you may be wondering if EMDR or talk therapy is the right fit for you. Both options have their benefits, but they work in different ways.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It’s a type of therapy that focuses on processing past traumas or ongoing issues that may cause anxiety or depression. EMDR uses specific eye movements, visualizations, or taps to help the client process traumatic experiences. Talk therapy, on the other hand, is a form of therapy where clients discuss their emotions or experiences with a licensed therapist. This type of therapy relies more on relationship-building and verbal communication.
EMDR has been shown to be effective in treating PTSD and other forms of trauma. It can be very effective with long-term results and improvements. However, not all therapists are trained in EMDR, and the therapy can be costly. For those who feel uncomfortable with the idea of EMDR, or who may not have experienced trauma, talk therapy can be a better fit. Talk therapy can also help clients with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and many other emotional concerns.
Both EMDR and talk therapy are effective for treating mental health concerns. Research has shown that both methods can decrease symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression. EMDR and talk therapy have both been shown to be effective in treating trauma symptoms. However, each person responds differently to therapy, so it’s important to find the right fit for you.
Finding a therapist who specializes in EMDR or talk therapy is important. A licensed therapist who is trained in both methods can help guide you in deciding which therapy is best for you. You can search online or ask for recommendations from family and friends. It’s also important to trust your gut feeling about a therapist. Some people may need to see multiple therapists before finding the right one. Having a strong and honest relationship with your therapist will help you feel more comfortable and therefore increase the effectiveness of your therapy sessions.
Preparing for your therapy session can help you get the most out of it. For EMDR sessions, your therapist may provide you with specific instructions on visualization or eye movements to practice at home. For talk therapy sessions, preparing a list of topics or emotions that you want to discuss can help with organization. It’s also important to be open and honest with your therapist. They are there to help you, and honesty can lead to more productive sessions.
You may start seeing small improvements after a few sessions, but it’s important to keep an eye on your progress overall. Journaling or tracking your mood changes can be helpful in gauging your progress. Some people may experience extreme emotions or memories during EMDR sessions, but this is normal and part of the processing that occurs during therapy. Therapy may lead to improved relationships, performance at work, or overall happiness.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Both forms of therapy are effective in treating mental health concerns and can offer different benefits depending on the individual. Finding a licensed therapist who specializes in either method and being open and honest with your emotions can help you get the most out of your therapy sessions. Your mental health is important, and taking the steps to find the right therapy and therapist can lead to a happier and healthier life.
Initiating your journey in therapy may feel daunting, but remember that the first step is often the hardest. You do not need to have everything figured out from the onset. The purpose of therapy is to provide you with a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and work toward understanding and resolving the issues that are affecting your well-being.
